Simply put, a permanent resident (PR) of Canada is someone who, despite having legally entered the country, is not yet a Canadian citizen.
Skilled employees who want to stay in Canada permanently will have to go through the Express Entry system. Express Entry, which was launched on January 1, 2015, is a government of Canada internet system for managing skilled worker applications for permanent residency.
An applicant who has a profile in the Express Entry pool can come to Canada permanently as a skilled worker under one of three schemes —
- Federal Skilled Worker Program
- Federal Skilled Trades worker Program
- Canadian Experience class
Under the Express Entry system, your eligibility for the Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP) is decided by the points you earn across six selection parameters.
- Language
Canada's official languages are English and French. Your language skills in English and French can earn you up to 28 points based on your ability to read, write, listen, and speak the language.
- Education is worth a maximum of 25 points.
The points to be awarded to skilled workers with foreign education will be determined by the ECA's Canadian equivalent.
- Work experience
To earn points under this criterion, you must have worked at Skill Type 0, or Skill Levels A or B, as defined by the National Occupational Classification (NOC), 2016 version, for a specified amount of time in a paid capacity – either full-time at least 30 hours per week, or part-time 15 hours per week (for 24 months).
- Age

- 18 to 35: 12
- 36: 11
- 37: 10
- 38: 9

- 41: 6
- 42: 5
- 43: 4
- 44: 3

You should get the job offer before applying to migrate to Canada as a skilled worker.
Job offer should be for full-time [minimum 30 hours in a week], paid, and continuous work.
- Adaptability
The chance of you and your spouse successfully settling down in Canada is represented by the term "adaptability."
Your adaptability, as well as that of your spouse or common-law partner who is accompanying you to Canada, will get you points.
